Democracy Means Voter Access: Here’s How to Help

Aug 10, 2022 | Party News

We are gearing up to train poll challengers for the Nov. 8 election – and we need your help in our 31 polling places. CLICK HERE FOR POLING LOCATIONS.

Each polling place is allowed two poll challengers to observe voter access and help protect our fair elections; one challenger is designated from each political party. The Democratic Party of New Mexico, in conjunction with our county party, trains and organizes Democratic Party volunteers who will learn basic election rules. The state party will soon offer a training video for volunteer poll challengers to watch at home. You do not need to be an election expert. Poll challengers just need to observe the polling place, ensuring voters are not disenfranchised. Complicated issues are called in to legal advisors stationed at the party’s phone bank.

Poll challengers observe how issues are resolved by the county clerk’s team of election workers and call in any issues of possible voter disenfranchisement. The Democratic Party supports every eligible voter’s right to vote.
