Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard has represented District 43 for three terms, is the current House Education chair, and in that time she has sponsored legislation to limit high-stakes testing and classroom sizes and has never relented on early childhood education, cosponsoring HJM 1 this session — a constitutional amendment to FULLY FUND early childhood education for every child in New Mexico. She has served on House Appropriations and currently serves on Labor & Economic Development committees. Stephanie is our education champion to protect and transform the the Land Grant Permanent Fund constitutionally established to fund public schools, hospitals and colleges. She has a history of standing up for New Mexicans by standing up to the NRA by sponsoring legislation to close the gun show sales loophole that would prevent domestic violence perpetrators, felons, and the mentally ill from purchasing a firearm (HB 50) and standing up against Trump by co-sponsoring the bill that would block his environmentally and economically destructive wall on state land. When Stephanie talks about serving the residents of House District 43, she explains that with urban and rural communities surrounded by the Jemez mountain range, tribal land, land grants and public lands, it really is a microcosm of New Mexico. For her strong environmental and renewable energy record, Stephanie was endorsed by Conservation Voters & Sierra Club 2010-2016 and was the CVNM Champion in 2015. She was also the Animal Protection Voter Champion for her work done with bears (sponsored 2017-HB 109 to mandate the humane treatment of bears) and to end coyote killing contests (2013-HB 316). Stephanie’s race for Land Commissioner has been endorsed by Rep. Linda Trujillo, Senator Nancy Rodriguez, Rep. Christine Trujillo, Former Land Commissioner Ray Powell, NM Our Revolution, Former State Treasurer James B Lewis, seven Public Education Commissioners & more every day. Join us in supporting our champion for the land office.
